They are a small van that usually run on a set route. They have them at Sanur. Very cheap. I think they are probably a motorcycle engine. There a bench seats along each side of the van and they are not open back, have been told they had the open back originally. They have windows and a door in the side like normal vans. Some of them are very dilapidated. Quite an experience. No set stops you just hail them and then let them know where you want to get off. 2,000 rp per person. Though some Danes at our hotel said they had been told 1,000 per person and that is what they paid each time. One driver refused to take me for 2,000 rp but another was happy to do so. The driver who took me had a far better bemo, no holes in the floor. The first driver had actually tried to jump the queue. A lot of them will try to get more from you. They can get quite crowded though I didn't see them that way this year. I don't think the locals would pay anywhere near 1,000 pp. (I know that it is really cheap travel for tourists). I opted to sit in the front with the driver because of my bad back easier to get in and out and more leg room. In fact I did this with taxis as well.
