in the last 12 months, our friends that were with us couldn't believe the differnce in 12 months. In fact, felt really bad they told us to change. There is no night life or atmosphere in Penang. Sorry but I feel you will see the differnce if you go again. I went ot Penang 8 years ago and remembered it and expected it to be the same. How it has changed and as for smiling faces where, there's no people on the streets, only at night and there all busy getting ripped off at the night markets. They are so expense in comparsion to Bali, one only eg: I paid $40.00 Aus for a Loui vonton hand bag which only cost $9.00 in Bali, I could of bought 4 and would of got a better price at that in Bali. WE stayed in the holiday Inn 4 star and the women are treated like we don't exist, only men. For me it was sad.
