I have certainly experienced all of the above and probably more than a few times. I've even met a few Balinese that were not that nice. Never really thought of it in the terms that you've suggested but I think you've hit the nail on the head. Paradise does have the occasional dark side but that makes you appreciate it even more when you realize that Bali is a real place, with real people. It's just so much more amazing than other places and with such beautiful people and an amazing culture. Not too many places can offer what Bali does and I hope the people and the island never changes. Now I'm making myself want to be there...better go and light some incense and put on one of my Balinese music CD's!!
