Am going to places I've never stayed before and would appreciate any tips. I've been going to Bali since 1984 and usually stay in Kuta (in losmens when I was younger -my thirties) and at cheap hotels eg Ida Beach Inn (loved it for its traditional furniture, simplicity & outdoor bathroom - 1984 & 2000). Ida Beach Inn is central to everything and quiet! Have stayed at Mandira (twice) and loved it but now booked out and priced out of my range.I even stayed at Troppo Zone's hotel in Poppies II and liked it better that the frenetic pace at Troppo Zone itself. Last year I stayed at Jayakarta with my niece. I was so disappointed because we were so far from the beach and pool and the rooms were like hotel rooms anywhere. The only bonus was that my niece slept on the lounge while I had the bedroom to myself. If you get a room within the hotel complex it is a great place to stay except for the distance and taxi ride to Kuta nightlife. Loved the cheap eats up the beach and the activities on the beach. Loved the staff and food at Sing Ken ken and the live music was fun - would stay there - rooms look nice.
To make a long story short - I've never stayed at Tuban or the Ramada Bintang so am hoping for good news. The street used to be fairly sparse when I used to go and was mainly the odd shop leather interspersed with empty lots etc on the long walk to the airport wartel.

Stayed at lovina a few years ago but can't remember the name of the hotel which was lovely. We went out one night and for the first time in Bali I felt unsafe because of the guys hanging around us. My husband didn't get the same vibe but it definitely put me off Lovina. We are going anyway because my husband knows people out of town that he wants to visit. Hopefully this visit will be a lot more friendly.

Sorry for the long meandering report. I can't wait to get to Bali but I know it has changed. Any reports on the Sunari, Ramada Bintang & Vira Hotels will be too late, but any tips on getting the best rooms would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers to you all!
