sounds about right... we are going in August and flying Garuda from Auckland. I think the airfare is around $1000-$1100 (sorry- can't be exact as it's part of a package). If you are flying from Christchurch then it does make it expensive. Have you tried looking on line for cheap Air New zealand flights to Auckland... if you book far enough in advance you can get some cheaper ones? Garuda departs Auckland every Wednesday (at about 1.30pm) and every Saturday (I think). Apparently Wednesday flights are cheaper but we do have a stop over in Brisbane for an hour.
