Thanks for your comments. I think that critical remarks often come from people who are jealous of someone else's happiness or perhaps have other personality problems. But that doesn't mean that others should have to put up with their ignorance and bad manners.
So far as I know, my son has had no unpleasantness levelled at him because of his relationship with Dayu and they have been living in Bali together since their marriage over 6 years ago. Anyway, I know my son, he would only take so much before he spoke his mind. Certainly, Emiko and I have no problems in this respect, although she is only 54 and looks years younger. We are ballroom dancers and socialise a lot together. We met through dancing and have a large circle of friends. Our friends are nice people, they are not rude and ignorant.
Probably the best way to handle this type of ignorance is to ignore it or laugh at it. Of course there's no harm in telling fools to mind their own business, or, if you can handle the situation emotionally and/or physically, tell them to go and get stuffed.
