Which is why on Sunday we read about a few hundred people being killed. Because they'd only confirmed that many.

There are still towns in West Aceh that haven't been visited by any officials. Meulaboh was virtually wiped out and the early death toll from there was just being added to the official figures yesterday. I haven't read any news at all about many of the islands off the coast of Sumatra.

Sadly, I think 100,000 is much lower than the real figure, before anyone even starts counting deaths from disease and starvation.

A friend of mine lost 12 family members in Banda Aceh alone. She is still waiting for news of other family members in other towns. But after 5 days it's hard to stay optimistic.
