yes you can buy books in Bali.
The two main Indonesian books stores in Bali are Gramedia and Periplus. There is a Gramedia bookstore on the 4th floor of the Matahari Department store at Kuta Square. The best one is in the basement of the Matahari Department store in Denpasar. There is another one on the upper level of the Bali Galleria right on the By-Pass to Sanur. The Bali Galleria also has a Periplus bookstore. These are all new books. The Periplus is all English language while the Gramedia at the Bali Galleria and in Denpasar is about 80% Indonesian and the rest English. These stores are good places to buy books on Bali/Indonesia. There are also a number of used book stoes in Kuta but the prices actually seem pretty high for what you get.
