When I was in Thailand having dinner with a friend a Scandinavian lady at an adjacent table suddenly launched into a tirade about "digusting Australians on their sex tours". Since I was the only white person in the place who wasn't sitting with her, my friend and I looked at her and started giggling, which made the woman angrier. She addressed me directly and told me I should be ashamed of myself for taking advantage of such a young woman. Which made us laugh again, because the lady I was with was the same age as myself, and I only met her because I had gone to uni with her younger brother. I wonder what she thought later, when my friend's husband joined us.
Once in Jakarta, when I was hanging out with a gay friend, among others, a drunk NZ guy put his arm around me and said, "Man, this place rocks, the guys are so cheap!" My friend heard him and later played a trick on him that's way too x-rated for this forum. Very funny, though, trust me.
But I've stuck my foot in it before, too. I once asked my caddy if she was still at school, only to be told she was 28 and had four children. I've been amazed a few times when one of two girls tells me the other is her daughter.
I guess the thing is that you can't please all the people all the time, and those people are usually knob-ends.
