Stayed at the Legian Beach Hotel as a school trip when Melasti st was still a dirt track with paddy fields and the odd stall. It seemed like miles to walk into Bemo corner. Cassette tapes where all the rage then, Poppies restarant was the place to eat and you didn't dare try steak/beef.
A ride in a bemo was a three wheeled open backed car with back cover. The Denpasar markets was a day trip and boy did it stink there. The drains where all open along the road ways.
Travelled via Garuda and had to have a visa back then.
Great trip.
