My real name is Cornelius de Houtman. I first came to Bali in the fall of 1596. Three of my men jumped ship at the sight of those utterly beautiful Balinese nymphs with their bare breasts gleaming in the mid day sun. I must admit, I was equally compelled to disregard my responsibilities to the Dutch crown, but somehow managed to maintain my senses.
My company artist drew and painted furiously. Those images, I returned with to my home in Holland. Seven years later, with the founding of the VOC in 1603, I was offered the opportunity to return, and so I did, living happily ever after.
