Yeah I've seen rats in Bali too of course. Yesterday I worked it out. My cat Lewie (called after Lewie the great, Perthites will know who I mean) catches a lot of mice because we live opposite a swimming pool with lots of shrubbery etc. around it which apparently is mouse central. It's certainly cat heaven because somedays he is just so full he can't eat his Snappy Tom. It's good that he is no threat to native birds, too full and too fat and no need for the pesky bell on the collar. I'm thinking of sending a bill to the local council for pest extermination.
Now in the area we also have a few peole who keep chickens and as many of you will know where there are chickens, there are rats. Every so often he will catch one but he won't eat them, not so much as a nibble on a tasty tail!!!! He just sits there angelicly on the step with the offending monster at his feet, throat ripped out.
Well yesterday the worste finally happenned and I walked into my study and there was a very dead rat. Men I must admit, are better at this stuff. I think it has to do with testosterone or something but he wasn't in, nor likeley to be for hours. I had to step up to the mark and did, gagging. Must put a new set of barbeque tongues on the shopping list.
Well the point of this waffle on is, Rats must taste bad which brings me back to the Tikus Besar in Bali. With all those cats and dogs around it stands to reason if they were edible they wouldn't be there in such numbers, would they? Evolution has protected them.
