Definately buy before you go, and you can also get to know your new toy. Plus you also have the paperwork should you need to ever make a claim, not that it should be likely. (My sister had hers stolen in Thailand last week, plus mobile phone and purse from room).
Also, get a 128 mb card, as they are really no cheaper in Bali. Though cheaper at Dick Smiths.
Check the internet for prices on cameras and cards also.
And don't be like me, leave your camera at home on its docking station!!!!!!! (I used a lithium battery in Bali).
