You may be aware that our Prime Minster Hon. John Howard, MP, has announced that he is travelling to Bali for the first anniversary of the Bali tragedy of 12 October 2002.

As part of the rememberance activities the Australian Government is
organising a memorial service at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park
(GWK) at Jimbaran on the morning of 12 October 2003.

The Prime Minister has asked that I extend a special invitation to the many
volunteers who assisted in the aftermath of the tragedy and I hope that
many of you will be able to attend. The service will be open to members of
the public, and all Australians and other nationals are welcome to attend.
As usual we recommend that you read the latest travel advice for Indonesia
and the latest Embassy bulletin before reaching your own decision on
attendance.

Information on the service is available from the Australian Embassy,
Jakarta website. www.austembjak.or.id We are asking those of you who plan
on attending to register through the web-site so that we have an idea of
numbers to assist with security and seating.

It will be a good idea to check the web-site regularly for updates as some
new information may be available as the event draws nearer.
I hope that whatever way you choose to remember that you take care and have a safe day.

Yours sincerely
Brent Hall
Consul-General
