We bought 5 kgs. packs of rice and I think they may have been about $4. Can't quite remember and also over there there is different grades of rice. But I do remember 50kg. cost $40 because the receptionist at our hotel organised a friend of hers to get it from the markets. Whether they added a bit more on or not I don't know.
The things we bought were the necessity type things and much much cheaper over there. Soap, shampoo, washing powder, toothbrushes (oral B are about 35c). The only things we took over were clothes and soft toys. I don't know how come we had so many soft toys but next year we would go lighter on those because we could take something more useful (but all the children loved them anyway) and containers of chupa chops were about $2 . Must have had about 60 in the tub. Even since I have got back I have been saying, why didn't I take this or why didn't I take that because they can use anything. We may throw what we think is an old sheet, they would love to have our old sheets and old pillows which we might think is a little stained. There are hundreds who don't even have a pillow. Whatever you can take in your case, take it, someone will make use of it. Hope this has helped.
