It's difficult to give a % figure to start at as sellers vary.
Earlier this year I bought some woven placemats and coasters at a price I was happy with. I liked the cushion covers but didn't ask the price as I didn't really want them. I had seen them on the Gold Coast for $25 each and thought they would be about $8-10 so didn't bother. The shopkeeper asked if I would like some cushions to match and I said No thank you. He came back with "0nly 15.000 rp". $3- I couldn't pass that up so I bought some. Wished I'd got more now.
As you said, you need to get a figure you are happy with and bargain to that, but with some items it is difficult to estimate how much youy should pay.
It's fun trying though.
