you don't need long sleeves unless up in the mountains but you do need protection even in Kuta, Legian etc with spray, we have just returned from Legian last Saturday and there were certainly plenty of them in our room at night, we bought mossie coils as soon as we arrived + fly spray and body insect repelant, and always wear it at dawn and dusk and especially at night before going to dinner no matter where you are in Bali as they are every where especially just now after the wet season has finished. Most of the restaurants burn coils under the table for you but I found that I needed more than that. If you are really worred take malaria tablets but they do make your skin more sensitive to sun and you evidently more likely to get sun burnt. I have never taken them myself but know of plenty of people who have. Hope you have a great time over there I know we did and can't wait to go back again.
