Standby rates?

Given the forumites offer by Ballivillas, I'm considering not booking any accomodation (other than any lead-in accomodation for air fares). This gives me total flexibility when I arrive.

Accordingly, what are standby rates like for hotels? Would they tend to be cheaper than bookings in advance made through Travel Agents? The sort of standard hotel I would be thinking about is along the lines of Putri Bali, Melia Bali etc.

Given the generally high vacancy rates I would expect standby rates to be quite cheap although I am not certain of this.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Cheers.
Mike.
