we were in Bali last May ex Sydney, returning again in 10 days time, and at that time STG was a much better exchange rate than US$ also you get better rate for cash, just make sure you have some Rup probabaly 100,000 just in case you need a taxi from the airport. Every hotel exchanges money if you need it quickly when you first arrive, and there are money changers - honest ones and dishonest ones ask around once you arrive most tourists will tell you where they go to change their money, you have to count it back in front of them before you leave the shop. Just keep checking out the exchange rate at the top of this page and make your own judgement.
