Hi Travelcat

My pick is the monkey forest at Alas Kedaton. The monkeys are very tame and generally well behaved. To get to the temple area where the monkeys live you go through a small market, and the stall holders take turns to act as guides. At the end of your tour of the temple and monkey forest they'll ask you to come and see their stall. We bought a few items from the guide's stall and browsed through others. It was very relaxed and friendly. I've included a link to the page on our website with pics of the monkeys.

While you're in that area maybe do a trip to Pura Ulan Danu as well. Once again very relaxed, great scenery including the famous water temple, very well presented grounds, and some other wildlife on display by the locals. Visiting that whole area was one of the highlights of our trip.

If you search the archives you'll read a lot about the various monkey forests. Ubud was ok, but Alas Kedaton was great!
