I'm not sure if you know it, however your hotel is not in Kuta. It is approx 35 minutes by taxi. If you want to be in the "heart" of Bali you should stay in Kuta, Legian or Tuban.
You would probably be better taking Singapore $ otherwise you will lose our twice on the conversion.
Good Restaurants: TJ's in Poppies Lane I - excellent mexican food. Poppies Restaurant, also in Poppies Land I. Kori's in Poppies Land II. In Tuban area (south Kuta) Green Garden, Pantai (on the beach) and Coconut Wharf at Ramada Bintang Hotel is excellent - just next to the beach with wonderful food and abience. Indus in Ubud is also great.
Matahari's Department Store at Kuta Square is great for any shopping.
Ramayana's Dept. Store in Denpasar is great for DVD's and games at 15,000 rp.
