The place they take you to if you go on a tour is a big restaurant with a fixed price buffet. I hated it and I'm not that fussy. There are a few small places and stalls but I have not seen one that is good. Last time I had a sandwich at a small stall. But definitely do not get the buffet. Many people have also complained about it.
There are quite a few people selling fresh fruit (mangoes etc).
Another place to go is Lake Bratan which is just north of Ubud. Just north of that is also the Git Git waterfall which is nice. You could get a driver to take you to both in a day for 150,000- 200,000? Don't know what the current rate is. If you get a few people that is quite cheap. If you want a laugh stop in at the reptile park Between the waterfall and lake Bratan. The magic show is hilarious (it's not supposed to be). There is a "magic" man who hypnotises crocs. They take it very seriously. It only costs a couple of dollars
