just wanted to share an experience.
was in Bali and had engaged a driver (part of a team) of repute amongst forumites for 2 days and we had agreed on a daily rate of 350,000 rupiah. at the end of the second day, the driver said that he would be coming by the next day to send us to the airport. we were surprised because though we did enquire about his airport transfer rate (125,000 rupiah) in our emails, we have decided against it in favor of the cheaper option provided by the hotel. we mentioned this to him and asked again if he was sure. the driver said that the transfer is included in the 700,000 rupiah total. we were pleased.
no prizes for guessing what happened at the airport. after dropping us off, we paid him the 700,000 rupiah and extra tips. then the driver smoothly asked for the 125,000 rupiah for the transfer. "oh, that was a mistake on my part. my team member said that we are to charge you for the transfer".
the money involved is not the issue. what's 125,000 rupiah at home? we were very disappointed in the young man's integrity and paid him anyway with disgust. he could have mentioned his "mistake" at the hotel when he was picking us up now couldn't he? we wouldnt have minded at all.
oh yes, by the way, we were requested to recommend him to you... anybody interested?
