Fiona, Omeprazole ( Prilosec in the U.S.) does indeed cut stomach acid, but not totally. To have concerns about bacterial overgrowth from the buffets you need a pH over 5-6 for an extended period of time, say 20 hours a day. Omeprazole can only get the pH over 4 for about 12 hours so in theory it shouldn't be a problem. I take a different PPI (lansoprazole)and have not had any problems when I go to Bali. Of course I am not a doctor (I work for a pharmaceutical company though) so take what I say with a legal grain of salt....
