An Indonesian speaker, he trekked a lot in South Central Sulawesi a few years back. One evening he bivvied at a hill-top village where the warung only had four bottles of beer for the thirsty trekker. Three more were scrounged from a neighbouring village and, when these had been despatched, another outrider arrived with the remaining two bottles within couriering distance. 9 Bottles = sembilan botol = Sembot. The legend lives on in that area where the warung owners still, hopefully, keep their stocks up in case of a further visit from Sembot.
Cracker. Don't worry about his non-attendance because I'll be seeing him tonight and threaten to cut off his rendang and that, as you well may imagine, is a painful operation for a man as devoted to the gustatorial delights as Sir Sembotious.
