Some time ago I was sitting in a friend's restaurant in Bali when a so-called 'para medic' walked in wearing a white coat. He took out a spike to test the workers in the restaurant for malaria. To my horror he went from person to person sticking the same spike in each one. Hey this was in the days when HIV was about and Hepatitis etc. Why did this happen and why did the staff accept it as OK. The answer - lack of education. This is the same ignorance festering in the community that allows a group of fanatics to take hold of popular imagination and instill a vendetta against Americans, or Christians or whoever.
A poor educational system, lack of information and a corrupt nepotistic political system. They all in their own way contribute to the suffering and lack of opportunity for local people.
