My wife and I (both first timers to Bali) have just spent 2 weeks in paradise staying at the Hilton International in Nusa Dua. Having stayed in many hotels all over the world, I would put the Hilton right up at the top of the list. The quality of the rooms, surroundings and the excellent staff helped make our holiday one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vaccations we have ever had. I would not hesitate in recommending the Hilton to anyone.
Our first trip was the Reef Cruise with Bali Adventure Tours, an excellent day spent snorkelling, diving, banana boat riding or just laying in the sun at the pontoon lying just off Lombongan Island. Lunch which was included in the price was very good with a large variety of food to choose from.
Elephant Safari, Bali Adventure Tours - after a very uncomfortable 2 hour drive in transport that can only be described as little more that a toy mini bus on wheels we had a lovely day riding on the elephants and lunching in the wonderful atmosphere of the park. maybe a bit pricey for the trip, but worth the effort.
Bird Park & Reptile Park - beautifully laid out parks giving you the chance to interact with birds and lizards of all sizes. A very good day out with an excellent lunch thrown into the bargain.
Kintamani Volcano Tour - some amazing scenery to be seen while making your way up through the rice fields and forests on this full day tour. As with most tours lunch was at a restuarant overlooking the lakes and volcanoes. Only downside was the constant hassle from locals trying to sell you gifts - a strong but polite "no thank you" is all that is needed to rid you of their attention.
Bali Hai Evening Dinner Cruise - a complete and utter waist of time and money unless you enjoy going round in circles in the dark whilst listening to a pathetic 3-piece band - enough said.
Monkey Temple & Tanahlot Sunset - most enjoyable day giving you the chance to see the real Bali away from the luxury of your hotel. The monkeys at the forest are very friendly and are only to glad to accept sweet potatoe from your hand, great photo opporunities. The sunset has to be seen to be believed - well worth every penny.
Bali itself as a whole - the people are the most friendly, smiling helpful people I have ever come across (except for Scots like myself). The choice and variety of food available will suit most tastes and is very good value for money. The local beers Bintang, Bali Hai and Anker are as good as any German or American beers. The scenery and things to do will keep even the most active people occupied. The weather was excellent ranging between 30 - 34C every day, a bit sticky during the evening, but hey! - even paradise has some drawbacks.
May I offer a big thank you to all forum participants for giving me an insight to this wonderful island and a special thank you to all the Balinese people for making me feel very welcome to their Island - if there is a heaven, then God chose Bali as one of the main contenders.
See you all soon - Big H from Scotland
