We also our timeshare in Bali (the Risata). We bought 4 years ago (it was a lot cheaper then. Whether timeshare is for you is an individual thing.
For us it has worked out well. For others I know it has not. My aunty bought on the Gold Coast (Australia) and the place went broke. She lost all he money.
We have stayed at Risata 4 times (no extracost) in a 1 bedroom deluxe appartment, kitchen, marble look bathroom etc etc. EWe alsao stayed 2 extra weeks at $400Aud a week for 4 people. Pretty cheap.
We also swapped a week in Bali for a week on the Great Ocean Road (cost $100). If we booked it through a travel agent it would have cost $1200 for the week. That was the price in a travel brochure.
We were also lucky enough to get a bonus week in a houseboat that slept 12 for $250.
Also a week in Foster on a farm (horse riding etc) for $99 for the week for 4 people.
So we have been taking full advantage of the bonus weeks which means it has been beneficial to us.
Next year we are going to New Zealand as there are always places available at short notice asa extra week. The thing is you get to stay in 5 star accom for 2 star prices.
As I said timeshare is not for everyone but it has worked for us.
We are going to travel around Europe in 18months and will stay at timeshare places.
Have fun and be happy with your decision
Make sure you take advantage of the bonus weeks. These are a real bargain, especially if you book them with short notice. They get cheaper as the week gets closer.
