Jeez, anytime I read "xxx is absolutely safe" and "I get all the top secret information" I smell some well-aged bull excrement.
I'm not logging in to tell anyone Bali is particularly unsafe - I'll be there with my family in a few weeks - but I do believe it's the height of foolishness to listen to tour operators and other partisans saying "no worry, mate."
Things are a little more tense than in previous years, and there's a tiny bit more chance that they'll spill over into Bali in spite of the fact that it's a tourist-based economy. Egypt is a tourist-based economy, and certain religious groups take great pleasure in targeting tourists for that very reason.
So now is a great time to pay particular attention to the news media, and yes, the state department and the UK and Oz equivalents. They tend to be very conservative in issuing warnings - not wanting to offend any of our friends or impact their tourist industries - so when they say "keep your eyes open" it's pretty foolish to take advice to the contrary.
