Have you looked at straw bale viz Modified Rammed Earth.
A guy in Aus. has developed a technique for skinning rammed
earth with concrete which is very cheap and thermally efficient.
More details send me your email. He estimates that 40 per cent of
world energy goes into the construction industry which his technique
dramatically reduces. Perhaps bamboo is even more efficient but less
solid and thermally efficient presumably. The technique is even more
suitable in cooler climates and he really wants to get the message
out rather than make money out of it (he is 76 years old. At present
the idea is being held back by the vested interests involved with the
construction industry.
