Every traveler has a different set of wants, but we've stayed at Bali Cliff for 3 years running now and don't know anyplace that suits us better at the price. In August, we tend to pay US$100 including breakfast. On Bali methinks that's midrange - there are some really elegant places that want $400, dim places for $15, and everything in between.

We like Bali Cliff because it's quiet and relaxing. It's too isolated and a bit too expensive for the party crowds, so if you want to get up and watch the sunrise on the cliff above the ocean, you've got the place to yourself. Ditto during the day - a dozen people in the pool, another dozen hanging around is about max.

The grounds are large and pretty. They have an infinity pool at cliff's edge that looks just like the picture, an olympic pool for the serious folks, vacant tennis courts, mountain bikes to borrow and quiet roads to ride 'em on. They have several restaurants, although they're not as cheap as you can find. They have shows in the evening, but these too can be pricy. Probably worth it for first-time tourists, and dead convenient to stroll from your room to a dinner show.

For us, the downside of the isolation isn't particularly bad, especially given the inexpensive taxi system. They'll drop you in Kuta or Nusa Dua for free (on their schedule, limited seating in a van) but heck, a taxi costs very little. You just have to be willing to put up with the fact that it's going to take you half an hour to get there.

So, if you're looking for serenity it might suit you. If you're looking for a party, it's certainly the wrong place.

All that said, we're not particularly "selling" the place, and would appreciate any suggestions of that Even Better Place we've been missing.
