We rented many cabs, either for the day, or to take us down the road in the heat of the day. Just walk out of the hotel, down the road, towards the main road. It's not very far, you're just going past the hotel, and towards their parking lot. There are always a group of guys who are waiting with cars or minivans. Make sure you ask for air conditioning. We used them for a few long trips and they also throw in a tour guide for the same price. I can't really remember the price, but make sure you barter with them.

You can also get cabs from the hotel. They have staff situated at the front entrance to help you, but it is more expensive.

Two things we took with us that were life savers was the cheat sheet that gives you Canadian dollar to the Rupiah and Rupiah to Canadian Dollar. Go to Filo's web page and print it off. I cut them out and taped them back to back. Next time I would have them laminated as they were well used by all of us on the trip. It helps when you are bartering to know exactly how much it costs.
The other thing we took was antiseptic wipes. You can get them from Safeway in the baby aisle. We were very thankful we had them on some of our long trips when there was no water for hand washing.
Hope this helps.
