We booked the superior interconnecting rooms through our travel agent but when we arrived they appeared to be pretty quiet so we ended up in the deluxe section (room 272 & 273). I went with all the information you provided about the resort and I thought that I would try to inspect the rooms first and then pay if I wanted to upgrade but it wasn't necessary! What lovely staff they have at the hotel, I can't believe that even the front desk staff could remember all our names and greet us personally every time we entered or departed- at least with the Balinese I only had to remember names like Wayun; Made; Ketut etc.
Yes the restaurant I mentioned is opposite the Holiday Inn, it had only been open about 6 weeks when we arrived - perhaps just growing pains and it will improve.
Huge hotel being built on the same side of road as Rama Beach next door to the Risata (at least I was told it is going to be a hotel but I can't imagine it could be anything else). Looks a fair way off completion but you can never really tell - one day all bamboo scaffolding the next open, for business. Very Western in design from the road.
