It is actaully that!
However, to make it easier for most people i have called a wav format for the simple reason of, to copy a music cd onto computer, to get the best quality you copy in wav format! From there you then conver to MP3, some programs enable you to convert directly from CD to MP3 but i dont recommened it!
The wav format is the best format for audio clarity but due to its size just not practicle!
You also copy a wav format to cd's to create audio cd's that can be used in any cd player!
So yes, in truth you are correct!
