If you look through the archives of this forum somebody gave a good detailed explaination of this topic a few weeks ago. Basically music CDs are universal format and will work on any CD player. V(Video) CDs are the asian equivalent of video cassettes and about the same quality. They can be played on most DVD players and PCs with DVD capability. VCD players are also quite cheap to buy and will also play music CDs but not DVDs. Beware that there are both original (with a sticker to say so) quality VCDs which are usually around Rp 50,000 for a movie and pirate VCDs which in my experience are much cheaper but quite often unviewable. DVDs are a much higher quality and have better compression so that an entire movie will fit onto one disk. If you buy DVDs make sure that you either have a multi region DVD player or buy DVD disks with the correct region code. Australia is region 4 and Indonesia is region 3 but quite often the DVDs on sale are US versions which is region 1.

clear as mud?
