Possibly a little bit late to post this message, but anyway. A few weeks ago, there was a show on the ABC showing a shadow puppet performance that was a mix of traditional Indonesian storylines and characters, with a modern twist (a lot about the environment and damage caused by tourism in Bali etc). Anyway, it has already been performed at the Adelaide Festival and is now on at the Melbourne Festival.
Can't remember who to book with, but the show is called "The Theft of Sita" and it looks really good. Has gamelan music, and they project stuff onto the screen as well as using it for the shadow puppets. Worth a look if you can get tickets, it's on for about five days this week I think (like from the 1st to the 5th).
