Just back from our second favourite country spent two colourful inexpensive (Aus $ =4700rp) weeks at The Bali Intan in 'The Morning of the World' Eighth visit for this still married couple of 28 years male 50 female 48.
Bali Intan wing rooms quite spacious with 'nothing to much trouble', staff. 24 hour pool where the hotel had an everyone invited cocktail party, a good way to meet strangers and swap stories, forget the hotel breakfast 80,000rp per head and forget the tennis court (broken) Balinese word for many problems. Intan centrally located for the value breakfasts on Melasti street.
Balitoo very good breakfast with help yourself noodles/rice, pancakes, eggs and juice with tea and coffee 10,000rp or just over $2. Tamian Legian still good value. Norms great for breakfast but a long wait.
Goshas got the votes for the evening meal but Papas at Kul Kul was the find of the trip. Fish of the day 49,000rp chicken tortellini 45,000rp bagus bagus.
Jimbaran Bay is still full of scale ripoffs where the 500ml of water weighed 1kg at many sea front restaurants, just be careful.
Had a fake Taxi pick us up one day even had a meter. It was only after we started to roll that we realised, no taxi ID, no taxi No, so we asked him to stop, the meter showed 2,300rp but the driver produced a chart demanding 7,500rp explaining his meter was broken. No way Wayan.
Candi Dasa was a head turning trip beautiful country side, deep tropical river gorges, palm treed mountains and island dotted beach scenes. Found a little treasure with an Australian run restaurant and Cottages named Puri Temple Café and Seaside Cottages just being renovated phone 036341629 and speak to Shirley.
Back at Legian the new beach road is a disaster for the Legain beach hotel and the Mandira as the noise, dust and traffic seem to increase daily .
Sammi and Sussi don't mind many forumites in attendance and easily the best patronised Beach bar.
Don't bother going into shops that have too good to be true money exchange rates as the rip off doesn't stop at the dealer down the back.
October rain was warm and friendly as daytimes were dry and sunny.
We wondered how the shop cashiers would feel if we gave them their lollies as 100rp, don't think so. The time share people really are a nuisance, I don't know whether it is our age or not but they pestered us silly. Try tearing a card in half in front of them!!!!!
The bartering now seems to be, half is rock bottom.
Our friends keep saying 'Are you going to Bali Again! ' but anyone who has been there twice will understand.
Hoping this has been helpful to everyone and not too boring. See you there next year.
