What you asking here about the "real" Bali, is go to villages.
Bali has been changed from time to time, from Cappucino to sandwich.
Iam not sure what you looking for here.Even 15 years ago, Bali has the most nightlife in Indonesia (for me anyway).To see the "real" Bali you have to be there 20 years ago.Barong Disco was one of the best, just a cross from Made's warung (Kuta location).And the old GOA restaurant still very small.Now...everything changed.
Villas is still the best if coming with a group.Go to north Bali to see "real" Bali rather than Kuta.But.boy...Kuta can offer more night life than Capetown.
